What Keeps Me Going is Realizing His Steadfast Love Endures

November 8, 2024|From The Desk of Pastor J

His love was shown in my creation, His love provided my deliverance, and His love continues to provide my provision. I'm retracing this morning, my life's journey, the times I knew that God was shielding me from mine enemies, known and unknown; natural and spiritual; and being grateful for the times where I didn't realize His hand at work in my life... It was God's steadfast love.

Reflecting on Psalm 136, we are reminded that the recurring refrain, “His steadfast love endures forever,” is not just a poetic device, but a profound declaration of the unwavering nature of God’s love. Despite the challenges and circumstances, we face, the truth of His steadfastness is unchanging.

When I think of all that God has done for me—the times He has lifted me out of dark places, provided for me when I had nothing, and surrounded me with His peace—I am overwhelmed with gratitude. His grace and mercy that rises in me each day before I even open my eyes, reminding me that His love is the anchor of my soul. I have an understanding of the public and private praise and worship of the people of Israel.

Psalm 136 records the mighty acts of God, and declaring after each act:

His steadfast love endures forever...

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.

Give thanks to the God of gods, for his steadfast love endures forever.

Give thanks to the Lord of lords, for his steadfast love endures forever.

To him who alone does great wonders, for his steadfast love endures forever.

To him who by understanding made the heavens, for his steadfast love endures forever.

To him who spread out the earth above the waters, for his steadfast love endures forever.

To him who made the great lights, for his steadfast love endures forever.

The sun to rule over the day, for his steadfast love endures forever.

The moon and stars to rule over the night, for his steadfast love endures forever.

To him who struck down the firstborn of Egypt, for his steadfast love endures forever.

And brought Israel out from among them, for his steadfast love endures forever.

With a strong hand and an outstretched arm, for his steadfast love endures forever.

To him who divided the Red Sea in two, for his steadfast love endures forever.

And made Israel pass through the midst of it, for his steadfast love endures forever.

But overthrew Pharaoh and his host in the Red Sea, for his steadfast love endures forever.

To him who led his people through the wilderness, for his steadfast love endures forever.

To him who struck down great kings, for his steadfast love endures forever.

And killed mighty kings, for his steadfast love endures forever.

Sihon, king of the Amorites, for his steadfast love endures forever.

And Og, king of Bashan, for his steadfast love endures forever.

And gave their land as a heritage, for his steadfast love endures forever.

A heritage to Israel his servant, for his steadfast love endures forever.

It is he who remembered us in our low estate, for his steadfast love endures forever.

And rescued us from our foes, for his steadfast love endures forever.

he who gives food to all flesh, for his steadfast love endures forever.

Give thanks to the God of heaven, for his steadfast love endures forever.”

We have a powerful reminder that His love transcends the ages and every aspect of creation. When we pause to think of the vastness of God’s works—the intricate design of the universe, the miracle of life, and the daily renewal of creation—we begin to see the boundless reach of His love. Each morning, before our eyes even open, His grace and mercy are already at work within us. It’s as if God whispers to our hearts with each sunrise, “I am here, and My love remains.”

When we navigate the storms, doubts, and fears of life, we can hold on to this truth: God’s love does not waver when we struggle. It does not diminish when our strength is low or when our faith feels fragile. His mercy rises within us each day, faithful and unwavering.

So family, take a moment to recount your own story, to reflect on how His grace and mercy have sustained you. Despite any current trials, let your heart echo the chorus of Psalm 136. Let gratitude rise in you for the innumerable ways He has shown His love.

Lord, we thank You for Your steadfast love that endures forever. In the vastness of Your creation and the intricacies of our lives, we see Your hand at work. Let us never take for granted the mercy that rises with each dawn. Even when our journey is marked with trials, help us to remember and proclaim that Your love never fails. Amen.
